Winner of the 2023 Lambda Literary Award for Transgender Poetry, Kamden Hilliard’s debut collection of poems, MissSettl, is a sonically vibrant, polyphonic, typographic experimentation that gleefully strategizes resistance and life under white supremacist capitalism. In this collection, Hilliard offers a playful and defiant debut, engaging with impish provocation, engagement, and mourning for the harm done to our living practices. Through their witty lampooning of rigged games of common sense, syntax, and citizenship, they expose the mechanics of what Americans have become and the possibilities for liberation after the end of capitalism, gender, race, money, and property.

MissSettl confronts the barriers to love and disrupts the limitations that hinder our potential. It is a testament to Hilliard’s talent and creativity, as they skillfully blend humor, joy, and spitefulness to explore the complexities of identity and society. This collection is a must-read for anyone seeking to challenge the status quo and embrace the possibilities of a more inclusive and equitable world.
